This class is designed for web and graphic designers who are already familiar with HTML and would like to understand WordPress theme design in more depth.

In the first 5-6 weeks we will :
- Learn how the WordPress dashboard works
- Set up a local hosting environment
- Learn the file structure of WP and specifically themes
- Learn how themes and child themes work
- Create a theme together as a class
- Learn how to add plugins
- How to plan a website and theme design
- How to determine the needed functionality
For the last 6-9 weeks:
- You will create your own theme (starter code for a child theme will be provided)
- We will cover the best ways to create and insert art (logos, headers, backgrounds)
- Learn how to research plugins to achieve the functionality you need
WordPress is a free, open source tool you can use to create a beautiful website or blog without being an advanced coder or designer. With this incredibly powerful, flexible, and customizable software, you can create a data-driven site very quickly. You will learn the basics of WordPress and how to modify it to create your own web design or theme. You will learn about the WordPress structure, basic theme building, installing and using plugins, and using WordPress to build and edit web pages and blog posts. If you’re a web designer who would like to take your marketability to the next level or a graphic designer who does not want to get too far into coding, then this is the class for you! Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and Photoshop are required.
This WordPress theme design class will be 9 weeks, 3 hours once a week, 6:30pm to 9:30pm on Wednesdays. It will begin January 18 and the cost is $469.
